We all want gorgeous and glowing skin, but it’s not easy finding the best skin care product and routine for you. You’ve heard of beauty experts telling you to exfoliate, moisturize, apply serums, and use sunscreen, but where to start? Here are top skincare basics dermatologists would refer for you to glow up!
Start with a cleanser
Cleaning your skin at the end of the day to remove makeup, oils, pollutants, and bacteria you’ve accumulated is important. You may want to avoid using hard rubs, harsh cleansers, or natural soaps to prevent skin breakout and irritation. Use hypoallergenic or low pH cleanser if you’re prone to flaky dry skin.
It’s best to use a cleanser at the end of the day to avoid washing out your face’s natural oils. You may wash your face, but don’t use harsh cleansers, lest you want to over-strip your skin.
Apply toners wisely
Should you apply a toner? If you’re using a low-grade pH cleanser and you have dry skin, then there’s no need for toners. If you must use one, buy hypoallergenic or water-based solution toners for the skin.
However, if you have excess oil, makeup leftover, or dirt, we suggest you use a toner indeed. Nowadays, there’s a range of toners available in the market for people with drier or oilier skin. Watch out how each toner differs from one another before using it!
Gently exfoliate your skin
Dead skin cells cling on top and you have to remove them to avoid looking dull, tired, cracked, and uneven. Be careful using physical exfoliants such as scrubs or beads. Too much use may break and sag the skin!
You can use them if you have excess makeup, oil, or grime on your face. You don’t have to do it every day. Meanwhile, exfoliants rich in glycolic and lactic acid will help the skin rehydrate and moisturize.
Pat, don’t rub it!
Serums protect your skin from the harsh environs that affect it. If you plan on dabbing serums, facial vitamins, and other anti-aging products, make sure you dab or pat them on the skin and not rub them harshly on the face.
Apply the serums in a circular motion while directing your fingers upward towards the temple. Vegan and hypoallergenic serum seemed to work best for people with breakouts.
Use moisturizers
If you’re planning to go out the day, always apply moisturizers to seal your facial skin’s healthy oils. Likewise, if you sleep at night, your body tends to lose a liter of water in the body and often leaves a drier skin the next day. To prevent this from happening, apply moisturizers as well!
Make sure to clean your skin before trapping mineral oils, moisture, and water with moisturizers like petrolatum.
BONUS: Wear sunscreen more often
Even if you’re just inside your house, wear sunscreen as much as you can. The UV rays can break down the collagen that causes uneven pigmented patches on your face. Likewise, it’ll lead to wrinkles and sagging skin.
Daily application of sunscreen with SPF 30 can already help prevent age spots, flatten wrinkles, protect moisture, and improve skin texture.
